hi bernie i just heard they are taking down the spectrum at the end of the season. will you miss it.

  • darylb says:

hi bernie i just got done listening to the show and the only thing wrong was that there wasn’t enough you. i had asked yesterday how you felt about loosing the spectrum and you spoke about good times and said times but not how you really felt about them taking the building. still so sad about pele to young, to talented to be taken so early. it doesn’t seem right somehow. not to have the chance to live to your full potential. at least here in the philly area he will always be remembered.i hope you will make a comment in the morning and you fill your boat with bluefin. oh the comment i made about your friend mike’s father was suposed to read i have a friend who was in the school where and when he was teaching. i guess it is my machine [i am still using the old one with no iespell] but when i read over what i wrote whole words seem to be missing and that is why i asked about an edit click. wel i hope you two have a good day on the water don’t let him go overboard. bye dary

I was able to catch some of the show on the way to work. It was nice to hear some of poeple’s favorite times in the Spectrum. I hate to see it torn down, a lot of great memories there!
Hey Bernie, any tips for someone whose going deep sea fishing for the first time…and a bit nervous?

Hi Bernie – Long-time Leaf fan here. I was a big fan as a kid when you and Jacques were our goalies – not so much after you left I’ll admit!

I have a couple questions I’d like to ask.

The first involves the Game #2 of the quarter-finals against the Rangers. Who actually tore off your mask during the big brawl? There’s a clip on youtube but it’s not conclusive from the tape. It’s always been said that it was Hadfield, but it looks to me like it was worked loose by Giacomin’s headlock and maybe a fan reached over and grabbed it. What are your recollections of it?

The other question is this: After you left the WHA, would you have returned to the Leafs (and helped us win a cup!!!) had the deal not been made with Philly for your NHL rights? Or would you have retired?

After an oldtimers game recently last winter, I asked Guy Lafleur which goalie game him the most trouble. Your name was first, then Esposito and surprisingly, Dave Dryden.

Anyway, if you get a chance to answer my questions I’ll be able to put these questions that have troubled me for 30 years to rest! Just kidding! I like the site too but it needs more pictures of you and Plante with the Leafs!

    Hey Bernie.
Dave from what I understand Mr. Parent agent and Mr. Ballard could not see eye to eye on a salary increase for Mr Parent. I think the trade to Tornto was great for Mr. Parents career. He was teamed up with jacques Plante who took Mr. Parent under his wing and guided the young and talented goalie in the direction of super stardom.
Mr. Parent was the missing piece to the puzzle in Philly and he won back to back cups for them..so the question is would he have returned to Toronto after the WHA…..NAH!!… Bernie’s heart always belonged to philly.
So my question is What was it like playing along side your idol and mentor Jacques Plante and then later on having him as a goalie coach in Philly?

  • Bernie says:

A good tip for a first time fishermen is don’t think about it. Alot of the sea sickness is in the mind. Plan on having a great trip catching alot of fish. The open sea is a wonderful place to spend the day.

  • Bernie says:

I do not know where that mask is. I always beleave Hadfield was the reason the mask came off.
I love Philadelphia and thats was a big reason I returned when I had the chance.

  • darylb says:

i think that myself and everyone else in Philly was, and still is, glad you came back.

  • darylb says:

i like the new pictures. it looks like you had a perfect day on the water and your boat look beautiful. did you catch any fish

  • BP30 says:

Bernie when is your next visit to Toronto?

  • Bernie says:

    BP30

I should be up in Toronto some time this fall.

  • Bernie says:

    Daryld,

Had a good day fishing we hooked into a 200 + pound Blue Fin Tuna that got away. Hey But thats fishing. Well get him next time!

  • BP30 says:

    Hmmmm!! Grilled tuna

  • darylb says:
